EPF, EPS and VPF explained

Understand the different parts of provident fund contributions before estimating a retirement balance.

HOW CONTRIBUTIONS FLOW

One payslip can feed different retirement buckets

Employee EPF, employer EPF, EPS and optional VPF should not be treated as one identical balance.

EPF: the provident fund balance

Employee and employer contributions are credited according to applicable EPF rules. The exact PF wage base, contribution rate, wage ceiling and membership conditions should be checked against current official guidance and payroll records.

EPS: pension allocation is different

A portion of the employer contribution may be allocated to the Employees' Pension Scheme for eligible members. EPS is not simply another amount to add to the EPF account balance. Pension eligibility and calculation depend on scheme rules and service details.

VPF: optional additional contribution

Voluntary Provident Fund contributions allow eligible employees to contribute more through payroll, subject to employer process and applicable tax rules. VPF affects the provident fund accumulation, but it does not mean the employer automatically matches the additional amount.

Use the InvestCalc EPF / VPF calculator

Enter your PF wage, contribution assumptions, current balance, expected salary growth, interest assumption and time horizon to see an illustrative EPF corpus. EPS allocation is displayed separately and excluded from the EPF corpus estimate.
